As AOSP is the dev root for all nexus devices, and the changes were applied in trunk, I think you might be seeing it sooner than you think...

That's not what I read. Do you have a link to that source? All Android Police coverage I read suggested that Dalvik was being hosed completely. Including links to the commit logs.
It's interesting to note that the back glass of Scared Stiff is actually one massive alpha pane, to accommodate the spider animation and lights.
