The Pinball Arcade
The Xbox 360 version has past certification testing by Microsoft and we can now officially announce that the game will be released for 360 on April 4th.
1080p, and we use a full 1080p (with 2xMSAA) buffer, unlike most Xbox 360 titles that really render in 1280x720 (or even smaller) then let the hardware scale up. For example, here are 2 of the most popular series on Xbox 360, and their video buffer sizes.
Call of Duty: Black Ops = 1040x608...
It's for performance reasons. Most platforms the slowdown comes from Overdraw and Fill. When drawing those transparent ramps, you have to draw whats behind them first, then draw the transparency on top. This overdraw requires rendering those pixels more then once which is a big performance...
One thing to keep in mind. The video's are recorded in 1280x720, due to the capture hardware being limited to 720p. The final game runs in 1920x1080, so if you have a Full-HD TV, it will look even better. :D
This has been on my TODO list for awhile now. When we built the new framework, I had trouble getting it to fire the sound at the appropriate times. When I get a chance I'll fix it and it'll be there in an update in the future.
I should also mention as long as your hardware is reasonable. We don't know what the system requirements are yet. But you'll at least need a DirectX 9 capable graphics card.
Please don't complain that it doesn't run on your Pentium 2 with a RIVA TNT2 graphics card. :D
I've not played Pro Pinball.
For the physics, we took the PHOF physics code and moved it over. Did some bounding volume optimizations and cleaned up the code a bit. Then added new functionality and improvements. Most of the improvments come from requests by Bobby King.
I worked on PHOF...
Your welcome. I'm not 100% certain how Sony works. We did submit for US and European releases, so I imagine they should release the same time or somewhat close. Please don't quote me on that though. =)
The Xbox 360 version is a "worldwide" release, so it will ship in Europe, Austrailia, New Zealand and North America at the same time. I'm not 100% sure if Microsoft releases on exactly the same day in all countries, or if some countries will be a few days difference.
Hi all. I'm the lead Xbox 360 programmer as well as the lead Pinball Framework programmer. Since I handle a lot of the table implementation I'll be looking into table specific issues. I look forward to hearing from you all.
