@Ryan: only had one quick game of Dr. Dude before going to bed. Just tried it again and now it is flawlessly fluid on Dr. Dude and HD3D. I'll try more tables during lunch break but those two were the least perfect before, so I guess it's overall much better now. Dunno why my phone tricked me...

Just had a quick game. Once again performance on my ancient phone is slightly improved but still not as fluent as on the other tables. Kinda like HD3D now.

Had a quick game of Dr. Dude. Not perfectly smooth, but much, much better, even during multiball.

Update due in June, but I can save more than € 10 a month if I don't get a new phone. Might put that money into a Nexus 7 or 10. :)
