I just want to chime in here and say that yesterday I picked Worms Pinball on Steam and to be honest, its horrible if you ask me, no wonder it did not do well.

I wish they could find a way to distribute it in a way where background software didn't need to be run just to play it. I mean with Steam even in offline mode you have to have the client running.

I'm a little bummed to see that things are still set to run in XP, I mean windows 7 has been the defacto standard since 2009 now and it kind of limits where the software can go, unless it simpy CAN run under DX9, i hope it would have some DX11 features too. 64-bit support, multi-core support, all these neat things we have powering our little magic internet boxes. XP sure has a legacy, but in the computer world, legacy means we've moved on from it.

I think they should sell a standalone version directly on their site (and it could be in addition to the Steam version). Not everyone likes Steam, so why not do what LittleWing does and sell the game on their website too? That way they could go ahead and get the ball rolling and get some PC sales while they wait for Valve to approve their game or whatever needs to happen there. As far as DLC goes, as I said in an earlier post: Why couldn't Farsight host their own DLC? You'd buy it in the game itself (perhaps via PayPal?), and then it downloads in-game direct from Farsight's server.

I agree wholeheartedly, by doing so they would get themselves the initial sales. Really i think they should do exactly what they did on the mobile platform and release the initial tables as score limited versions with the featured table of the month. They could accept payment through paypal, CC, email money transfer, echeck, whatever and sell tables individually or by packages. The core audience would buy the tables, start showing the sales potential, probably show Valve what they are missing out on. Not to mention that from what i've seen and have been doing (including my second blog article, which was about TPA) regarding how vocal we've all been about this game. I personally have convinced about 15 people to download a version or the other to at least see the game.

That's a great suggestion about releasing it like the mobile versions, with the score limited tables. That would save them some work with changing the code as much too since it's already in place in other versions, plus it would cut piracy out of the equation as well.

I would really just like a non-steam option. I have a steam account and for most things don't really mind having it running in the background but for this particular application i can see a decent amount of people wanting to run this on a machine that might typically not be connected to the internet for the most part. This is under the huge assumption that it would support pincabs. If not i might still pick it up simply because i would be able to play while my fiance uses the xbox for Netflix.

Having the game on Steam will help cut down piracy, it will still be pirated even if it's on Steam but at least it will be less than Farsight just having the game on their website...

Plus lots of people want it on Steam so they can have it digitaly stored and available to download at all times.

Lots of companies are switching to use 3rd party clients to run their game via Steam, Origin, ect.
It's the future of PC gaming and we just have to deal with it, like it or not...

Yeah, but we were saying though: why not release it both on Steam and as a standalone game? It would only mean more sales, so it seems like an obvious move to me....and also piracy wouldn't be an issue at all if it was like the "free" mobile version where you have to pay to fully unlock the tables.....basically shareware, which actually it would be in Farsight's best interest for as many people as possible to download it then, no matter where they get it (steam, or any other website), because every person who downloads the free version will be a potential customer to unlock the full tables.

Two options that have just come to mind which may not have been mentioned/discussed yet:

Kickstarter: Given the work across all the platforms for each table is the same, it would be safe to offer, say, different numbers of tables per kickstarter level up to what's been announced now (so, initial four plus MM/BoP plus CV/FH). Bonuses across that could include, say, your initials on the default highscores or the specialist highscores if the table supports them? Merchandise, even? I'd kill for something like the Black Hole backglass on a t-shirt or poster.

Good Old Games: Somewhat appropriate, too... but they've released their fair share of DRM-free titles (including their own Witcher 2), support smaller dev companies and have their own distribution model. They also have a number of pinball games already for PC (Fantasies etc., Pro Pinball) so it would slot in with their catalogue nicely.
