As far as that goes, the new games look nice, but aren't a graphical quantum leap over the best the currents systems offer.

Really? Knack looked like playing a Pixar movie with all the fancy shaders and textures. Not a fan of FPS games but what they showed was very impressive:

We'll have to see how all this connectivity/sharing works out but being able record and share gameplay and to watch friends play live and join in is pretty cool.

I also noted ZEN Studios was featured on the list of developers, good for them!

Where did you see Zen Studios listed? I only saw FarSight Studios listed under the "List of Third Party Game Developers and Publishers" section of the official Sony PS4 press release.

Not to mention all the particles that assemble/dissassemble when Knack morphs. Looked impressive.

But yea, you wont see the jump form SD to HD we saw last gen. The difference between 720 and 1080p is just less impressive on first sight, moreso because last gen the PC's werent up to the level of consolegfx when they came out. This generation, current PC graphics are already on the level of the PS4, so we already know how stuff will look.

all these pre game demos are probably running off a PC right now anyway............I might get excited when I actually see the released versions......until then I'm very much happy with my current gen. The games industry has gone very stale as of late.

I'm looking at the PS4 being a stable rigid architecture PC, which is fine (and also how I used to view the 360). I haven't had a PC for years and use my macs for music rather than gaming. PCs will always be one step ahead of the curve but keeping up with the latest technology comes at one hell of a price. It's what drove me to console gaming in the first place. I got sick of the constant upgrade cycle whenever a big new PC game came out and ran like a dog on my system.

As ever, what will swing it for me is the games and which of MS or Sony delivers the system that makes gaming (rather than social networking and streaming media) its priority.

Good to see From Software on that list of developers. Along with Team Ico I'm looking at them to create something special for it.

I have never been a day one adopter of a console. While a large part of that is a money issue, the other parts are eventual redesign of console and lack of games at launch I'm actually interested in. I've not once noticed the missing card readers or usb ports on the PS3 slim, yet I paid $200 less then my friend and got twice the hard drive by waiting 2-3 years after launch. By that point, there were 2 Uncharted games (which quickly became my faves), a bunch of Guitar Hero type titles (my PS2 go to game), and God of War III was right around the corner. For that matter, I don't usually pay full price for a game either, I wait for the rare sale (thanks Target!) or the Greatest Hits price drop.

So yeah, I can get excited about everything Sony is talking about, but I'll be looking from afar, playing the massive back catalog of games for the PS3 I haven't even touched due to a certain pinball game hogging all my attention this past year. Once it comes into the $250-300 range, then I'll jump in. Seeing as it'll be packaged with the new PS Eye 4 and all that processing tech, I'm sure it'll be a while to drop that low.

What you guys need to know about Gaikai : Unlimited Hardware capability , your PS4 will not be limited in technical aspects with GaiKai , nor will the PS Vita , if you can watch a video , then they can host a game from a high end gaming server , the PS4 wont have technical limitations , any game on PC it will run with Gaikai . Now how Sony implements Gaikai to PS4 is yet to be seen. Pricing and execution will be key factors. Originally Gaikai was envisioned as a way to do free game demos by bringing the full game to you without risk of piracy . But the potential is hosting Godlike high end PC games to a console or mobile device if it has wireless connectivity. It also has access to all Sony titles as a rental service . If you had a wireless device , a PSP , Sony Erickson Phone , A PS Vita , Sony Laptop , Sony TV with built in features , and can download apps, you can run Gaikai to play ANY game .

This will mean GAIKAI only games , they exist on a private server , you can record footage but the game itself is not kept with the consumer 's device ,and cant be copied or sold to shops , this is why Sony does not have to rely on encrypted DVDs and forcing out single owners from being the sole buyers . They will certainly in the future keep "hot titles" as part of Gaikai streaming service . My suspicion is this will be part of PS Plus service .

FS wont' have to develop for the Vita anymore, you can just continue your game straight from the PS4 with those graphics through the cloud. Nice.

Good luck playing a game where instant input reactions is all important, through a Gaikai stream. :)

Right on the money. If Sony can leverage this potential properly, I think it'll be a killer app that rockets them to the forefront again.

I can care less about all this social media crap. Just give me deeper, better looking, better playing games. As far as that goes, the new games look nice, but aren't a graphical quantum leap over the best the currents systems offer. The continued trend of diminishing returns? PS3 wasn't as big a leap over PS2 as 2 was over the original PS.

The HD improvement was a pretty big leap, a lot bitter than I had initially thought. Still, back when PS3 did come out, I didn't feel it was much of an improvement either. This time around, it's been 7 years, and I feel the leap is much smaller. It doesn't feel like "next generation", just a minor hardware upgrade.

I'm guessing the "next gen" will be all kind of icky online stuff and awful motion controls. Count me out.

Wouldn't OnLive already be on the forefront now, then? Sorry, I just don't believe in Cloud streaming of games, but Sony can try to prove me wrong.

I think that people who have been claiming that the minimal gain in graphic performance of the PS4 (and XBox 720) over PS3 and and current PC iterations are missing several key points.

1) The HD resolution between 720 and 1080 is only the 2D rasterization of the graphics. The main gain will be in the "Z" vector and procedural enhancements. The theoretical bandwidth of the coupled CPU/GPU and unified high speed memory should allow much deeper penetration into the visible 3D world without arbitrary boundry clipping. Only time will tell how the PS4 handles this in real life, but it promises much more depth of field detail and less "pop-in" for larger 3D worlds.

2) The massive computational and bandwidth gains with the above hardware configuration allows the type of shaders in the in game engine to allow "in game" realism that has not been available in real time yet.

Obviously Sony and Microsoft have to practically realize this potentiality, but let's give the hardware credit where it is due. There is the potential for real advancement here. Please do not trivialize it.

XBox also has the potential to wield this type of change, so don't paint me as a PS4 fan boy. In fact, I am a XBox supporter. But only he future will reveal how much of the potential both manufacturers will actually bring to the "real time" table.

I gotta be honest - Knack, to me, looked like a PS3 game. Was not impressed at all.

Was REALLY unimpressed with "The Witness" and that awful move video/demo.

I was very impressed with Killzone, Watch Dogs, and the "Deep Down" clip from Capcom. Also thought Infamous looked great.

The videos that were just tech demos? For me, those are worthless. I've been around long enough to know that tech demos always look great and always overstate a machine's real world capabilities.

Every Playstation and Xbox console was shown to posess a promising graphic ability.

and every time THEY SQUANDERED the potential on un imaginative games , using the graphic engine for pretty cutscenes , but rarely used it for games .

I like Sony's platform because they are most likely to do something more "innovative" , but you usually slog through a year of genre games before those unique games are released . By taking themselves ahead of E-3 , Sony avoided the one upmanship of a suprise microsoft or Nintendo reveal , this buys them more time to generate PS4 E-3 momentum .
