It's happening. That is all.

I like your optimism but, at 1,000$ a day it's going to come up 10 grand shy of the goal. We need another really big bump like we got last weekend. Farsight still needs to promote and I hope they have something else up their sleeve. I think an iOS update that fixes Whirlwind and promotes T2 would be a good start...

Here's an idea:

10,000$ Tier:
1 spot
Donate 10,000$ and when we are done digiitizing T2, This baby is all yours! The actual machine, that is.

Sean Doncarlos Idea of letting us pick our own non-licensed machine for 5,000$ donation with 2 spots would also do the trick. Or 2,000$ donation with 5 spots.

Another idea: $1000 Tier - Gets you a working Farsight employee badge so you can go there whenever you want and play their tables, check out what's going on, or just harass management about doing what you want them to be doing. ;)

Pirates of the Caribbean - THAT is the game I would LOVE to see and play on TPA. It's been about 6-7 years since I last played it.

I think FS said that the cost of digitizing each table is in the hundreds of thousands. With that said, that $1000 tier would be well underpriced as it may not even cover the cost of purchasing the desired pinball machine.

If you contributed $100,000 I'm sure they'll digitize ANY table you want.

If it truly costs hundreds of thousands to digitize a table, you'd think they'd be able to eat an extra $60k for the premium license.

I don't believe hundreds of thousands of dollars is the cost of digitizing a table. I would believe tens of thousands to dollars to digitize a table. I have no basis for my opinion, but
the low costs of tablepacks.

I am curious to find out the price of digitizing a real pinball machine. I'll post the question for Jeff to ask Bobby in the next interview.

Well, let's say that it cost $200,000 to make a table. An additional $60,000 is an additional 30% to the overall cost. Would that premium table make 30% more revenue on its own just to break even? That question is rhetorical for us, because we would need information that is only available to FS.

That extra $60k could be the difference between making money, breaking even, or losing a lot of money, so there is a risk factor as well.

Given that they are going through kickstarter, they have probably decided that the extra cost for these tables is simply not worth the risk of coming up short in revenue.

I believe that Bobby King said in an interview that digitizing each table was in the hundreds of thousands. I'll try to dig up the source, but I do remember reading that somewhere.

Well, there's an awful lot of artists, designers and software engineers that have to provide for their families. I would imagine that the cost of procuring a table is only a small portion. In the case of a super rare table like Goin' Nuts, I'm assuming that after they've broken the table down to it's nuts and bolts and documented every piece, that it can be restored to it's former condition or better, for instance scanning and documenting a part does not require that it be cannablized, on the contrary, after meticulously cleaning and lubing all the parts, the newly refurbished table probably looks and runs just as well if not better than it did when it first rolled off the assembly line. So loaning a rare table out to Farsight essentially means not only preserving history, but you would also be getting it back in pristine condition. After all, Farsight has a wonderful partnership with the Las Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame Museum. I can only assume that's how they procured the Goin' nuts table in the first place.

First we'll need to know some financial figures, like how many people buy X table pack and how much profit Farsight earns per table. This likely varies per platform. Then you've got business expenses, property rental, utilities, employee salaries, insurance, advertising, etc subtracted from gross, which is some combination of the total installed user base multiplied by royalties per table multiplied by the number of tables purchased per gamer. Microsoft, Sony, Apple, Google, Ouya, and hopefully someday Nintendo all take a cut of the profit. I would imagine at least some of the premium licensed KS tables possibly skim an addition percentage in royalties off every sale.

Either way, if it wasn't profitable to digitize tables, Farsight would have gone out of business long ago; the TPA would have folded, and the Gottlieb and Williams PHOF collections would probably have been their only lasting legacy. As it stands, TPA is a smashing success and grows larger with every new release. Should T2 fail, it doesn't mean it's end-of-the-line because there are still hundreds of great tables waiting to be digitized.

And yet people still feel it's unreasonable to have to pay an average of $2.50 for each table.

Assuming the original machine costs a quarter to play, you've recouped your investment after ten games, not to mention you saved a lot on gas too!

I sent Farsight an e-mail about whether the table is included in the Season 2 table pack and just got a response of "I believe we will address this issue in a Kickstarter update this week." ... so Hopefully there will be another update that could also bump up the kickstarter as last I checked through kicktraq it was at 98%.

I remember it too. I can't remember if it was an audio interview or if I read it somewhere. I thought it was from Jeff's last audio interview but I just scanned through it quickly and it wasn't in that one. I definitely remember it though because I was a little surprised to hear how much each table costs to produce.

Well, if it was a machine that they were probably going to digitize eventually, then it wouldn't be a big deal. That's why it would really only work if they provided a list of pins to choose from.
