What tables do you hate with a white hot passion?

...it seems 9 of 10 balls are lost to outlanes...

How do you think Bally built a mega-casino in Las Vegas? These are the same people who build slot machines, which are designed to take your money in exchange for some flashing lights. Pinball tables are not far removed from that. It has become a game of skill only because it's so ****ing difficult to keep the ball from draining on any table. You're doing okay, considering the odds against you. :) Maybe pinball players are just suckers for punishment?

Well said. Outlanes are supposed to drain your balls consistently.

I cut my teeth on an EM, my dad's brutal 1965 Williams Alpine Club...so most of the outlanes in TPA feel like a walk in the park.

Hate Goin' Nuts, Harley Davidson, El Dorado. I like Big Shot, reminds me of the good EM's I played as a kid.

I used to not like Space Shuttle, but I am really appreciating it now on the PC. ST is just too damned hard, and Flight 2000 does nothing for me.

With ST:TNG, I find that the left / right shots are safer than many of the center shots. Get a good "flow" going, especially with the warp factor shots (left lane -> "delta" ramp), and memorize the shuttle sequence to guarantee an artifact, and "nudge" away from those outlanes as much as you can, and you can get a very high score. Without a good flow, you run into the infamous Steve Ritchie outlanes quickly. It's in some ways a typical design from him.

This is very much the same as the original pin, which was a bit of a drainfest. Make it quite a bit easier, you get people who complain about it being quite a bit easier (see: Twilight Zone). I actually find TPA ST:TNG easier than the real thing as the delta ramp is a bit easier; I can get Final Frontier a bit easier in TPA than real life.

Thanks for this, managed 1.8 Bill, not very good but definitely an improvement. There is one shot though, where I brick the post on the right ramp, and it deflects directly into the outlane almost every damn time. Set my watch to it.

Thanks, will try this.

Actually, the trick with Champion Pub is not to aim for the boxer at all and abuse the centre plug and smart punches. When you start a match, you can let the ball rest on the stopper and shoot for guaranteed ramp shot combos. Then smart punch to take him down! But be wary of the stopper flashing, which means it's about to drop, which means you'll have to revert to regular strategies.

You can do that three times in a game, then the required ramp shot combos become too long to get them all in before the stopper drops. So if your goal is Ultimate Challenge, beat the first two boxers normally then cheese the other three. If your goal is a leaderboard high score, you'll need to beat all the boxers normally and save the cheap KOs for the cash fights to push the total score over a billion.

Yeah, it doesn't work as the boxers get more difficult, but it can give you a decent headway into a game.

The KO shots don't depend on the boxers, only on how many times you've previously KOed in the game. If you never KO through the first four boxers, then Steveo will go down to a simple jab-jab-KO. Save the KOs for the harder boxers or cash fights.

I don't hate any of the table but... If I had to choose, it would be Dr Dude and HD, I find both table incredibly boring + I hate the sound in Dr Dude.

What I dislike the most is ramps, those damned ramps, the ball goes up just to get down instently because you didn't it the ball hard enough and... boom, a drain just in the middle.

Since the first tables I played as a kid where EM, I like those, especially Big Shot. But my favorite era are the early SS, late 70's to early 80's. Flight 2000(my favorite), Genie(yes, I really like that one), Black Hole etc... But as much as I like all of the early SS on PA, and being better on those table, there are some exception, I suck big time on Gorgar, HH and BK. Even if I prefer old table, those without ramps, I'm a big big fan of AFM, MB and WH2O, and I'm really good at them.

When this first came out I thought it couldn't get any worse than Harley Davidson. Then along came Genie, Going Nuts and El Dorado.

I guess I am in the tiny minority that really digs goin nuts.

I dig the alternate take on the game, I dig the tension and that frantic panic to get the shot on top to restart multiball, and I really need multiball practice.

Plus, no damn outlanes! I understand their purpose, but it is nice to get a break from them.

Gotta say though, it was a wise move to not go into full production on it.

I like going nuts. the last tourney got me into it. I play it about 3-4 times a week. you said it right about the tension.

The truth is multiball doesn't actually give you any extra scoring in flight 2000 save for having multiple balls batting around. all the real points from it are from STARTING multiball. A ball getting relocked only puts you closer to starting the NEXT multiball.

I don't like my first post to be negative but I had to register to express my loathing for Class of 1812.
Don't get me wrong, I quite like the rule set, challenge and layout of the table but for me it's COMPLETELY ruined by the atrocious amateurish voice acting on the horrible character rhymes. It's like they pulled a couple of people off the street and recorded them to save money..
'My name is Mumsy..' GAHHHH
I can't believe Dr Dude gets more hate, that table is great, quality voice work and unique and funny theme, but Class of 1812? Kill it with Fire!! (or play with sound down).

I'm so glad I've got that off my chest. I love TPA :)

I love 1812, but you are right, the "raps" are like typical white person "i can rap too" attempts that make Dr. Dude look like Dr. Dre by comparison.

Otherwise...if you're not for pinball, you're against pinball...we have no room for grey area here :p (thread reply, not directed at you and welcome to the forum).
