I assume you notice that first character is a lowercase "L" and not a capital "I". Classic impersonation trick. He's not posting scores as your username at all. It's a different name and there's no expectation that Farsight would prevent that, although they might remove them manually.
I remember trying for the 20 ramps to see that too. I think I got there but there was no second backdoor billion.
They don't quite have to be perfectly in sequence, if you miss you've got about three seconds to regain control and try again before it times out, but it's still pretty tight.
Is it better to comment on the blog post or in these threads? I guess I'll do the former and link to it from here: http://digitalpinballfans.com/entry.php/192-PINBALL-DISSECTED-Monster-Bash-(Williams-1998)#comments
Same here. My machine isn't the greatest, a Wolfdale Core 2 Duo about 6 years old. It plays TPA itself fine, but doesn't have the mojo to stream or record quite at full gameplay speed, which makes the timing a bit choppy and enough to throw off my shots, adversely enough that I can't really...
Man, I'm down to just three #1s. There's a number that I could take back with some six or twelve hour marathons... but do I really care to do so? We were talking about a "truce" mechanic on rankings for infinityable tables, do we want to resume that discussion?
I do plan to grab season 4 if...
This, very much so. I love the feel of the lightning flippers in TPA. There's more space around the flippers to do a bit more of the subtle moves that TPA's flippers are usually too crude to allow. And slap saves aren't automatic, I actually miss them on occasion. The lightning flippers play...
ToM is the only one in this set where I wouldn't, at least. Even with EBs, it's not quite infinityable, you'd have to reach Grand Finale every ball and even I can't manage that. Without EBs, competition is about grinding the safest shots you can over and over. The other three tables all have...
Why not Theatre? That's the only one of these four that's actually skill-testing rather than grindy. Whitewater is nothing but Whirlpool Challenge forever. BK2K I'm not really familiar with (never bought it) but people say that's grindy too.
I don't think the jump loop would be neverending in TPA. I've never managed more than a few in a row on the tables that have such a loop like Whirlwind. Shots at high speeds like that aren't easy at all.
Also, I remember No Fear specifically trying to disallow timing out the modes, by pausing...
Are you doing the "put up or shut up" group with the top players together, like on NGG last time? And if so, is the table Bride, since it was the final one selected?
Even if not, I'd still grind the skill shots as long as possible, both because table scores are a tiebreaker between groups and...
Since folks probably haven't looked at the Bride table forum in a while, I'll bring this out here that I posted a while back. Found an interesting way to abuse this table.
You can nudge the ball from the Heartbeat ramp into the plunger. Nudge leftwards just as the ball is coming off the...
Yes, me too for No Fear. I remember liking it a lot. It's what Whitewater wanted to be if it had a fully modern rule set. Always surprised at how little discussion No Fear gets around TPA. It is a license, but you have to figure it couldn't be a difficult one.
Blackwater 100 is also a...
That method works on PC too. (from the lock eject, hold pass right-to-left, don't try to catch, just shoot.) Not super reliable, maybe 30%. But it's better than the 0% of a set shot.
I played BSD as the free table of the month, and scored 70B that didn't count on the leaderboard because trial version. Anyway, here's my take on strategy.
As usual, let's start with physics and railroading. Like many other games around that era, you can catch from most ramp/inlane feeds with...
PC. The Cannonball Run camera bug doesn't happen every time, but does often enough that I inevitably hit it in a long enough game.
I haven't played CV in over a year to know of any fixes, but have never seen word of any.
That rating isn't inaccurate for the TPA port. It still has a game-killing camera bug (permanently locking onto the backglass after Cannonball Run), more bad camera behavior around the plunger, and some glitchy physics with the Highwire lock.
Nothing that I can think of. Complete Theatre, start the 8th illusion, start and play multiball, start and play Midnight Madness. Then shoot the U-turn loop to start Grand Finale. Are you doing all that? Remember you do have to do all 4 tasks again, not just the 8 illusions.
I'm not so sure. Earlier seasons had plenty of hungry outlanes too. Elvira, Dr Dude, Space Shuttle, Pinbot, Gorgar, 1812. I don't think anything has gotten worse in that department. It's just selective perception because people don't play those tables as much nowadays but do play the current...
