You won't see that lighting on the existing consoles, not enough power. PC will certainly get it at some point though, it just depends on how long it takes.

Moblle devices currently wouldn't have enough power either, but who knows maybe someday.. they are continually improving. Some tablets may be close already.

Just a quick comparison with direct footage from both theXbox 360 & PS4 version of TPA running Star Trek: The Next Generation (Source of video from Farsight's videos)

They look very similar of course, but then again this is a WIP..so maybe this was pointless. :p
I'll update it again when better source images become available.

I personally hope they can improve the table resolution. It sometimes seems like the source material was scanned at 300dpi or less and then enlarged.
The lighting and everything is great, but without clean/sharp table graphics it may come off as an enhanced 360 or PS3 game.

EDIT:
Xbox 360 logo replaced on Left side of image. Sorry for the mixup!

@spoonman: why aren't the shield lights messed up in the left picture?
Is that somehow another thing lost in the 360 to PS port? :(

as they continue to improve....uhhg:( sounds like TPA for PS3 all over again. With the ability to fix the game easier this is a baaad sign, glad I'm not being the guinea pig again. Hey FS lemme know when you got it figured out.

I think they mean continue to improve over the next 4 or 5 months until release of the PS4. Certainly they will continue to improve things even after their initial release. The big difference this time will be that on the PS4 they will actually be able to fix things and patches won't cost them $$$.

Oops. I sometimes forget they are still creating Xbox 360 table DLC and using them in their promos.
The screen was taken from this http://youtu.be/-QKCMPLUDIA

I was focusing more on the table art than the lighting, but I definitely see it now.
Did they say why they left that out of the PS3 version?

The picture has been fixed now and displays the XBOX 360 logo. Sorry for the mixup.

When you pause the video just before the 38 second mark, you can see the pause screen for a few frames. I don't think anything is revealed by this, but maybe someone here can find something I missed.

We can confirm that:
  • There is an "Options menu"
  • There are Leaderboards
  • There are Achievements (Not Trophies?)
I have a feeling that I am simply looking too deep into this. :)

I tend to think this is just a tech demo largely based on existing assets, and that the actual PS4 game will look significantly different in just about every way.

Yet it still has significantly better lighting even if it isn't "dynamic" plus curved things like the ramp rails look much smoother. I also think that the cannons on the slings look way better. They even capture the lights like they are translucent.

Hopefully the table art on the PS4 version is just a place holder for higher resolution art.
That way they could zoom in closer and still maintain a realistic, smooth look.

Another thing I am wondering is if the PS4 version of TPA is going to support stereoscopic 3D.

It looks gorgeous. Worlds better than the pink lighting hue on console (thank God...).

However this version needs to have the lighting slider option out of the gate!!

I agree. The day/night slider would make an excellent reason for me to upgrade from the PS3 version.

I've always found the "lighting slider" thing people keep wishing for a bit silly-sounding. Would you really be altering it all the time? I wouldn't. I want the developers to pick one lighting scenario and make it fabulous. Making optional lighting schemes for a single table is just not a very efficient use of development time.

Well, if they want to make it more like a real pinball experience it would make a lot of sense.

Pinball in a dark room can look totally different from a well lit room.
I would like the option to enjoy the light show or get a nice detailed look at the table art.

I can't seem to find many good quality pics of pinball in the dark, probably because most consumer grade cameras blur easily with flash turned off.

These look pretty decent though:

Day and Night modes are a must to get full enjoyment out of all tables. Playing tables in a well lit room (Day mode) allows the player to enjoy the artwork and design of the table. Playing tables in a dim or dark room (Night mode) allows the player to enjoy the beauty and light show the table has to offer. Without one or the other, you're only getting half the experience.

...and I still stand by my post to this day. You only get half the experience if you only have one or the other.

Very true, so maybe FS doesn't need a slider but just a light-dark toggle setting then? Two preset options would seem to be easier to program than something completely dynamic, going back to the previous point about the best uses of their development time.

If all the lights are actually producing light like a real light would on the PS4 version wouldn't that not really take that much work?
