Surely the only thing that would need a license is the the mascot, Striker who is pictured on the backglass and one sling shot decal, everything else is generic artwork!?. There are no team or player names or likeness used anywhere on the table!

There's also some images of the World Cup itself on the backglass and playing field, and all over the playing cabinet, which would require FIFA consent. Striker is probably property of USA Soccer. Not to knock my avatar, but a license for a one-shot 23-year-old mascot is probably fairly reasonable.

But if it is, in fact, World Cup, that's the one I'm hoping for. Isn't "Mr. Boomshakalaka" the announcer in this one too?

Indeed, it is, the great Tim Kitzrow. He got his start in pinball before NBA Jam came along. Some guys in his band worked at Midway/Williams, and they needed a Mr. Howell for their Gilligan's Island pinball. Kitzrow volunteered, and the rest is history.

He also did the voice of Rod Sterling in Twilight Zone. Also was The Shadow (plays The Shadow), Red and Ted's Road Show (he plays Ted; Carline Carter Cash plays Red), Judge Dredd (Judge Dredd), Junkyard (multiple), WHO dunnit (Nick Spade), Elvira and the Party Monsters (multiple), and Attack From Mars (multiple). Also did Stern's NBA and Midway's NBA Fastbreak.

I'm holding my breath until the achievements are up on Steam (or I get hold of the beta, whichever happens first).

Wolfson always expands my english vernacular with his oz slang

relo = family relative

Still I don't know what he is trying to tell me with "looks like I'm getting closer to my family relatives" in the context of this thread. ;)

Maybe, looks like I'm getting closer to get all my favourite tables ..

Dude on Facebook says that World Cup Soccer is going to be renamed. I'm not sure if it is the same dude that initially leaked the three tables.

I don't trust Facebook comments nowadays. It's not WCS without the actual things that make this table really enjoyable.

If that's the case, I would rather have Gottlieb's World Challenge Soccer then a brutally altered World Cup Soccer

It's pretty obvious we are getting WCS'94 however they've also added a hint that it's a modified version. See the guy's arm? Why the heck put a patch on that pic unless it's to hint this is a patched, therefore modified version? I also wonder if the drunk bubbles are also a hint on future table like Fathom? (that's a reach though).

Everyone need not assume the worse. I think changing a few graphics here and there isn't the end of the world as this was such a big license that I was pretty sure it was unattainable like the Simpsons or Disney-owned characters are. IF that helps us get it like the Fester change I'm all for it.

If I have an area of concern it's the DMD itself and the call-outs. If I recall I think the DMD is fairly safe outside the title screen but I haven't played WCS '94 in a while so can't really remember if there's a lot of licensed themed call-outs? For the backglass, well if they supported a pincab I'd be more concerned as the backglass is more prevalent but... they don't, so I've moved on.

I know the mascot appears pretty often on the DMD. Would be sad if they had to cut those out.

My assumption would be = FS gets a license with USA Soccer for Striker and USA Soccer logo, but not one with FIFA for the World Cup. So they scrub the Cup from the backglass, field, and cabinet, and change the name. I can live with that.

I'd be happy with this table, not gonna lie haven't bought many tables as of late. Since my main gaming device is a console I'll be waiting a bit. Hopefully GB comes out soon for the Stern PA.

I though the whole ethos of The Pinball Arcade was to digitise exact replications of real life pinball tables for future generations to enjoy!!, sure changing a table to side step licensing agreements goes against this.

To be fair if they have to remove stuff from a table that, thus taking away what makes that table special then whats the point!!!?

Because in this world intellectual property costs a lot of money. As I see it you have three options:

1. Quit complaining and be thankful you get it at all.
2. Keep complaining, pretending you have some kind of moral quandry with the graphics on a digital pinball game and never play it while the rest of us have fun.
3. Send FS several hundred thousand dollars so they can buy the rights to the name FIFA and what is likely the most well-known trophy in the world.

Seriously now...the *****ing in this thread is hilarious considering the dearth of actual knowledge anout a yet-to-exist product.

The layout and rules are still good/fun. It would just lose a bit of its charm if all licensed material was just flat out removed. First I guess we should wait and see if it is WCS 94 and then see what if any changes are made. Could be as minor as Addams Family, where you don't even feel them.
