Alright, I've distilled my knowledge about AC/DC's ruleset, such as it is, in the Real Pinball section of the forum. Or use the convenient link below. :D
AC/DC LE Ruleset Explanation and Basic Strategies
Enjoy!
I've started playing in a new league over on the Missouri side of the river, hosted by Third Rail Bar and Grill. Not a bad change of pace, I can get dinner on location (try the Train Wreck burger, very tasty, but be hungry - it's 3/4 lb of hamburger and beef brisket!), and new players to meet...
Still some electrical investigation work to do - at some point when all these mods were added there was a mix-up and some of the inserts now strobe or blink when they're not supposed to - but I figured that was no reason not to share a picture of her all lit up:
Again, my apologies for the...
...is no more! After two previously unsuccessful attempts to complete "Destroy the Ring" on Lord of the Rings were thwarted on the final shot by airballs off the Palantir target (as recounted in Destroy the...GOD @#$%! IT!), I'm happy to report that the Ring was thrown into the Crack of Doom...
It appears I was a little hasty with declaring my league season over (see The Pinnacle of Mediocrity). It turns out that I thought I had just missed the playoffs for B Division, but a higher-ranked player than me was unable to attend, so I just squeaked in as an alternate.
While I didn't win...
Well, another league season is in the can. Finished 10th of 18 (despite having a 60 - 52 record), which I guess is OK, considering my league games this season have been collectively the worst of all the games I've played in 2013. When your high score on AC/DC is 182M, and you can't break 18M in...
I'm flailing around after league yesterday (an average performance, although one plagued by mechanical failures: X-Men's flippers died on me mid-multiball and another player got shafted by AC/DC failing to return a ball it should have) on Dracula, and have a pretty mediocre first two balls, only...
While I'm sure the table will still hand me abysmal games whenever it feels like it, I'm pleased to announce that a personal quest of mine in the real pinball world has come to an end. I accept The Twilight Zone's surrender.
Started The Fellowship, The Two Towers, and Return of the King multiballs? Check.
Activated Destroy the Ring? Check.
Made required side shots? Check.
Locked the first ball in the Ring? Check.
Made final shot through the Ring for the win?
Well, I might have had not the ball gone airborne off...
Another league session tonight ended with 3 mediocre games, but a surprising 22M performance (replay is roughly 9M) on Avengers LE - I think I'm starting to get the hang of modern Sterns.
I normally don't do very well with Medieval Madness, both in real life and in TPA. Case in point: League...
While the AC/DC table includes many of their greatest hits, "Shot Down in Flames" is not among them. That's too bad, because it would have accurately captured my league performance last night.
Oh well, I said this wouldn't last long.
On the non-league front, some rules changes for Sin to break...
So I find myself tonight in the unprecedented and totally unexpected position of leading my league. This won't last long - there are too many players here whose skill greatly exceeds my own, as demonstrated last time around - but it's a nice way to start off the season. :D
What we're playing...
(The eye closing is the last animation on the DMD during Lost in the Zone before the total is calculated.)
A few random observations and trivia on my pinball experiences in 2012, of no particular importance:
I've managed exactly 1337 posts to end the year. This was not deliberate. Also 27...
Just a little data to keep things in perspective.
Updated May 31, 2013
Average price for 1 game on a real table, assuming you can find one in working order: $0.75
Average price for unlimited play of a TPA table: $2.50
Average price of unlimited play of a TPA table with its Pro Mode: $6.50...
No, we're not saving Middle-Earth, slaying dragons, or even meeting dwarves. But we can be wizards, if only rarely. So it's time for a little light-hearted test of your wizardly knowledge. Below are 30 wizard modes, or in some cases, the feature that's activated from successfully completing the...
Pretty abysmal games this evening, with one exception early on...I've managed to successfully complete "Do or Die" on an Iron Man with Hard settings, and shattered my personal best six and a half times over, going from 12M to 78M!
Do or Die requires that you complete the following on one ball...
Those readers paying attention to the forum know that controversy has re-erupted over FarSight's tuning process for the tables in TPA and its effects on the difficulty of the tables. I took a rather indifferent stance on the issue the first time it came up, since the tables were only moderately...
OK, maybe not twenty thousand...maybe just one. At any rate, my local league's season is over. I ended up 9th out of 17 players, so smack in the middle. For my first experience with league play, I'll take it and run. :p
Looking back, apparently I need to work on my emotional game: Whenever the...
Having been logged into the chat room without paying much (well, any) attention to it this evening, I missed the following question: "What are you going to do when TZ is old news on TPA?"
Play ST:TNG, of course.
Twilight Zone may be my favorite table, but I have access to 75 of them here. I...
